Class Placement

Higher ability classes are offered at each Year level. Students suited by ability, disposition, information from contributing schools and standards of achievement may be offered places in these classes or the mentoring programme.

All other students, including many with higher ability but who are better suited to "broad banded" classes, will be in classes of mixed ability.

Much care is taken in placing students with homeroom teachers who might best meet the students’ learning styles, social needs and/or interests.

Generally students will remain with the same class group and homeroom teacher for both Years 7 and 8. Students, parents and teachers may, for a variety of reasons opt for a change in the second year – all are consulted prior to changes being made.

Fees

There is a compulsory materials cost for the Technology programmes. For both Year 7 and 8 students the fee is $80.

Voluntary donations for 2010 have been set by the Board of Trustees at $160. This figure has been set in response to parents’ clear requests not to have frequent fund raising events.

Welcome to Cobham Intermediate School

Our Motto is ‘Achieving For Life’.

Set in the North West Area of Christchurch, our co-educational Middle School focuses on the education of 10-13 year old students. We have a total of 750 students, from a diverse range of cultures, for whom we provide a rich and varied curriculum. For many years we have enjoyed much support from all international communities in Christchurch. We highly value relationships with all involved in our school.

Features of our school are our modern teaching and learning facilities. These include a well resourced Science Laboratory, Music Suite, School Assembly Hall, Library, Gymnasium and easy access to Information Technology equipment.

Most students choose to enrol at the highly sought after local secondary schools on completion of their middle years education at Cobham. Our own park like grounds contain excellent well kept gardens, courts and sportsfields.

Academically our students achieve outstanding results in both International and National Competitions.

Outstanding musical opportunities enable students to be members of performing groups of the highest standards, in both orchestral and choral music.

With a strong emphasis on studying, expectations on students to achieve across the curriculum at optimum levels are high. Our numbers advantage students through having specialist teachers in areas of strength and interest, enabling students to have the best opportunities.
