Reporting Students' Progress

INTRODUCTION

It is the right of all parents and caregivers of students to have regular information from the School on student progress and development, and for teachers to be given such home information as would assist them to reach parent/caregiver and student goals.

OBJECTIVES

  1. To provide for parents/caregivers with teachers' assessments on progress, achievements and attitudes since last assessment, whether oral or written.
  2. To report the progress of individual students relative to the achievement objectives of the National Curriculum Statement.
  3. To provide students with information on their progress in class work, relationships with others, and how they are meeting curriculum, teacher, and personal goals.
  4. In the case of a written report, to provide a basis for meaningful dialogue on the student’s strengths and weaknesses so that attaining the student’s potential learning may be best catered for.
  5. To provide students with an opportunity to set personal goals and assess their performance in meeting teacher, parent and personal goals.

GUIDELINES

  1. Teacher - Parent/Caregiver - Student interviews at end of Term One.
  2. Full written reports issued in June and December.
  3. Teachers available for interviews throughout the year - by appointment.
  4. Parents/caregivers’ requests for interviews about their child when the need arises.
  5. Students set goals at regular intervals and are personally responsible for monitoring their own goals. Teachers play a watching and monitoring brief over the methods used to achieve their students' goals.

CONCLUSION

Education of the student is a joint responsibility. There must be full and frequent communication between parent/caregiver and teacher, teacher and student, and parent/caregiver and student, on the progress of the student and individual standards reached.
