Cantamath @ Cobham 2019 – Results

By September 22, 2019 No Comments

The annual Cantamath competition was a huge success. Students created exhibits showcasing their creativity in mathematics based on the theme “Maths across Cultures”. Teams from across the Canterbury region competed in a competition to find the best of the best in the maths world.

Earlier this term, our students had the opportunity to let their creativity run wild. You can see many of the results in the photos and folder linked here. From our in-school competition, we selected our best exhibits to be displayed at the Cantamath competition in the Horncastle Arena.

There were over 1100 exhibits on display from all over Christchurch. The judges commented that this year’s entries were of exceptionally high standard. Our winners are acknowledged below.

The Cantamath competition was hotly contested by our teams at both Year 7, and Year 8. In a nail biting contest, with only a minute left, four teams were tied on the last question – including the Cobham team. We finished in a tie for 3rd place. Congratulations to John Lee, Jack Hastie, Aaron Kwak, and Roi Saxon.

Our Year 8 team also performed creditably. Finishing in the top 10 is an achievement with close to 100 teams entering. Congratulations to Raghav Bhutani, Ray Suzuki, Jack Cai, and Jaden Hu.

Finally, we would like to acknowledge the hard work and effort from everyone who entered a display.  We hope you were able to visit these displays in the hall while they were exhibited.
